Ode to Audre Lorde

If my knowledge could be tangible, it would be a tree. It keeps growing, and the leaves of my conditioning are shed with time so that new ones can come. I am constantly learning, and constantly unlearning. At the bottom of my knowledge tree are its roots, and at the base of those roots are the hands of all the people who have given their wisdom to the world, have fought with grace, and guided me here. One of the strong hands that hold the soil of my knowledge is the almighty author, thinker, activist and woman Audre Lorde.
Lorde redefined many meanings and took the nuances of concepts into her own hands. She is one of the thinkers who put to words what I now call poetic antidotes: manifestations of beauty, power, art, and joy in a context of political awareness. A graceful revolutionary, Lorde dedicated her life to addressing the systemic issues that plague our society, creating connections between them, and infusing beauty and magic in her thoughts.
