Those who know me, know that one of the few places I find solace in is by the water. My love language is bringing people to places by the sea, that I have come to think of as sacred places. The sea has held my screams, my tears, my joy, my excitement. Water is always near me or in me. As I began to write about ecology, women's rights, justice, and imagining a more liberated world, I realised that there was one element I needed wisdom from: WATER.
Our lives are deeply connected with water. From bodies to oceans, to rivers, to blood, water is everywhere.
Humans tend to look at nature from a pedestal, but the more I learn about relationality the more I realise that nature has a consciousness and it has many of the answers we seek. All we need to do is listen. This is why I decided to create and curate a course on Water with Advaya, a global transformative learning platform on ecology, consciousness, and spirituality.
Wisdoms of Water is not a course ABOUT water, it is a course WITH water. From water beings to water memory, to religious practices around water, participants will get into a dialogue with the element of water itself.
In this course, learn about meandering from Dr. Bayo Akomolafe, who I often mention in this newsletter, about water communication from Veda Austin, about water mythology from Francesca Mariano and Dr. Veronica Strang. We will get into Christan mysticism with Dr. Matthew Fox, and leand about memory and water through the legacy of the Transatlantic Slave Trade. The last class features the mother of ecofeminism herself, Dr. Vandana Shiva, who will talk to us about water from an ecofeminist lens.
Together with these teachers, healers, researchers, activists, and artists, we will dive into the spiritual realms of water, discovering the stories and memories it holds.
We will resurface to understand that how we relate to water is intrinsically connected with how we relate to our bodies and our future. This is a learning experience for the senses, where participants will explore the ocean as a site of liberating symbols, intricate histories, timeless mythologies, and immense possibilities.
For the last three years, I have lived in places facing drought or floods, and with each day I realise how important it is to understand water. I am deeply honored to be holding the space and wanted to share that as a reader of WAVES, you can get a 10% discount on this by using the code WAVES-WOW.
(Yes, the course’s acronym is WOW and I love it.)
Join me from the 28th May, until the 2nd of July. Every Tuesday from 6-8 PM GMT.
With watery love 🐚,

Sea creatures and Ocean narratives
I inherited love for the sea from two people that I never knew: my grandfathers. The house I grew up in was full of shells that both had collected in their oceanic adventures. My grandfather on my mother’s side, who named his daughter Marina, died when I was one year old, so I do not have many memories of him except the stories of the shells that he had picked up in the Red Sea as he travelled. As a child, I would spend afternoons putting these shells, sometimes bigger than my head, to my ear to “listen to the sea”, I found calm in this.
Embodied Explorations: finding ground in chaotic times
For weeks I have been itching to offer something to the community that holds this work together. I began with the question: What balms can I offer in times of chaos? What joy or tenderness can I infuse that still grounds us in political awareness but feels beautiful and poetic?
