I am back with the long-awaited Forest of Knowledge. For those new here, every season I share books, podcasts, music, and movies that I am currently using in my research, or that have particularly impacted my thoughts and reflections through the years. If you like this kind of stuff, don’t forget that under every essay in this newsletter, you can find an Inspiration Station, where I share two or three discoveries from my week.
My work is not made in isolation, everything I do is held by the pens, voices, paintbrushes, and dedicated work of other people too. And I hope that in turn my work will do the same for others. Here is where I share the things that hold this work.
I want WAVES to be a space where readers can come in and take what they need in the moment, where they can engage with different senses.
If you have missed the previous Forest of Knowledge editions, here is the Winter one, and the Summer one, featuring a short ritual to read with intention which I love doing! I hope these serve you in your work, research, or simply bring more knowledge, joy, and curiosity. 🌱
In Search of Our Mother’s Gardens (Womanist Prose) by Alice Walker- This book changed my direction as a writer of women and the world. Her essay on tending to her mother’s garden opened up the door for me to infuse spiritual and emotional work in my political work. The two must go together, and Walker is one of the people who taught me that. “We inherit a great responsibility as well, for we must give voice to centuries not only of silent bitterness and hate but also of neighborly kindness and sustaining love.”
